Installing on Windows

  1. 1. Plug the DV Access Point Dongle into an open USB 2.0 PC port.  The “Found New Hardware Wizard” should display as seen in the picture to the right.  Select “Yes, this time only” and click “Next>” to have Windows search for the appropriate FTDI driver.

  1. 2. Select “Install the software automatically” and click “Next>” to install the FT232R USB UART driver.  If the driver is not found, download the driver from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm by clicking on the “setup executable” link on that web page.  Run the downloaded executable and the drivers will be automatically installed.

  1. 3. Click “Finish” to complete installation of the first driver.

  1. 4. The “Found New Hardware Wizard” should display again as seen in the picture to the right.  Select “Yes, this time only” and click “Next>” to have Windows search for the appropriate FTDI driver.

  1. 5. Select “Install the software automatically” and click “Next>” to install the USB Serial Port driver.

  1. 6. Click “Finish” to complete installation of the last driver.

7. The DV Access Point Dongle driver installation is complete.  The green LED should be pulsing on and off.  If it is not, you may need to download the drivers and install manually.   1. 8. Download the DVAPTool application file using a web browser by entering http://www.dvapdongle.com/downloads/DVAPToolInstaller.exe and run it to start the install wizard.

  1. 9. You are ready to go to the Using the DVAP page listed at the top of this page.  If you receive a missing library notification when you run DVAPTool, download the Bonjour installer from       http://support.apple.com/kb/DL999

Installing on Mac OS X Leopard or later

  1. The DVTool application will only run on an Intel based Mac running Leopard or later.  Install FTDI drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm prior to connecting the DV Access Point Dongle.  Once installed, plug in the DV Access Point Dongle and download the DVAPTool archive at http://www.dvapdongle.com/downloads/DVAPTool-mac.dmg and open the file.  Drag the DVAPTool application to your desktop or Applications folder.  You can then proceed to the Using the DV Access Point Dongle page listed at the top of this page.

Installing on Linux

  1. Drivers for the FTDI USB chip used by the DV Access Point Dongle are included in most Linux distributions.  Plug in the DV Access Point Dongle and download the DVAPTool archive at http://www.dvapdongle.com/downloads/DVAPTool-linux.tgz and extract to your Desktop.  You can then proceed to the Using the DV Access Point Dongle page listed at the top of this page.  Note that some distributions like Ubuntu include an accessibility package called brltty that must be uninstalled before DV Dongle use.  Newer versions of Ubuntu may require disabling the Modem Manager.
